This is the true Wasabi! The majority of the wasabi that you find in shops and even in restaurants is simply horseradish and mustard because true wasabi is rare and difficult to grow and keep.
Since Aromatiques Tropicales only offer high quality true seasonings… we only offer true wasabi, the real thing, top quality but in a different form; wasabi paste in a tube. This particularly high quality wasabi paste is produced in Shizuoka, in southern Japan, from true fresh wasabi (wasabia japonica).
A plant that is endemic to Japan, wasabi is difficult to farm, growing wild in moving water which keeps a constant temperature. Ours is grown in the clean cold waters of the rivers that flow down Mount Fuji. A member of the Brassica family (horseradish and cabbage) wasabi has large heart-shaped leaves and a white flower; traditionally it was the fresh rhizome that was used in Japanese cuisine but today more and more cooks use it dried or in paste form.
It is used to season sushi, sashimi, smoked fish (mackerel, sprats, kippers, herring, haddock ...) and cold meats. Powerful and very fiery ... perfect for the samurai in your family!
