Berberis vulgaris

Small red berries, aromatic and acidic, can be used whole or crushed in sweet and sour sauces, but avoid cooking them for too long. They are gently cooked in oil then mixed into rice. An original alternative to use for a sweet and sour sauce to serve with duck breast. Add them to salads or eat them as a nibble. Keep refrigerated if possible.
