Myristica fragrans
Nutmeg is strongly aromatic with a warm spicy flavour. Use sparingly on mashed potato, stewed apples and pancakes, in biscuits and planter's punch, rice pudding and fruit salad. Wonderful with chocolate - try a dusting on chocolate mousse using a nutmeg mill (decorative and practical, and much more efficient than the thin metal grater often supplied with nutmeg and which always seems to bend at the crucial moment, not mentioning the problem of grated fingers!). In very high doses nutmeg can be toxic, use sparingly.
