Matcha tea is a Japanese green tea whose production is extremely meticulous. Its antioxidant properties are renowned worldwide.
This powder, made from ground young green tea leaves, must be prepared in a specific way to fully benefit from its properties. To properly dissolve the powder in water, a specially designed bamboo whisk, or chasen, is necessary.
This bamboo chasen has 100 strands.
Preparing Matcha Tea:
- Soak your chasen (tea whisk) in water at 70-80°C (158-176°F) for 10 to 15 seconds to soften the strands and prevent them from splitting during use.
- Place 1 to 2 grams (approximately 1/2 teaspoon) of Matcha powder in a bowl or a wide cup.
- Add a splash of cold water.
- Whisk with your chasen using a W-shaped motion for a few minutes, breaking up any lumps.
- Add approximately 80 ml of hot water at 70-80°C (158-176°F) (no hotter to avoid burning the tea) while whisking with the same motion. Continue whisking for a few minutes. The tea should be very frothy.
- Enjoy!
