Nutmeg is strongly aromatic with a warm spicy flavour. Use sparingly on mashed potato, stewed apples and pancakes, in biscuits and planter's punch, rice pudding and fruit salad. Wonderful with chocolate - try sprinkling on chocolate mousse. Surprise guests by sprinkling lemon juice over apple quarters then dusting with nutmeg, serve as a nibble with drinks. Simpler to use but does not keep as long as whole nutmeg.
In very high doses nutmeg can be toxic, use sparingly.
