Nigella sativa
A small matt black seed with an aromatic slightly peppery flavour, used in a wide range of spice blends. Note that they come from a different variety to that commonly grown in gardens (love in a mist). Use them sprinkled over rice, added to Asian dishes, bread and cakes. They can be used whole or ground in a pepper mill.
